Frequently Asked Questions

Where do your toys come from?
We hand-select every item at garage sales, estate sales, local thrift shops, and through direct donations from families who contact us. We never take toys from Buy Nothing groups—or anywhere else—without the donor’s clear consent. If it lands in our shop, you can trust the original owner wanted it to have a second life.

How do you make sure pre-loved toys are safe?
Each toy goes through a safety check and cleaning. We always complete the following steps:
1. Recall search
2. Visual inspection for cracks, loose parts, or peeling paint
3. Parts count to ensure completeness (yes, we count every LEGO!)
4. Age-appropriate labeling before it hits the store.

What condition can I expect?
We grade toys “New,” “Excellent” or “Good” (cosmetic wear but fully functional). Check individual listings for details.

What’s your return policy?
30-day, no-questions-asked returns. If something is wrong with the toy you received, email wiseowltoyshop@gmail.com and we’ll send an offer of store credit minus the cost of shipping. 

Can I give you toys my kids have outgrown?
Absolutely! We're currently only accepting toys in greater Boston but hope to expand to other locations soon. Fill out our Sell/Donate form, tell us what you have, and we’ll arrange drop-off or pickup. You’ll earn store credit or we’ll donate on your behalf—either way the loop stays closed.

How is shopping here better for the planet?
Buying one reused toy saves an average of 25 lbs of CO₂ and keeps plastic and wood out of landfills. We also ship orders in recycled or recyclable materials.
